Is MU Online worth playing in 2026? An honest answer
MU Online is still maintained: Webzen publishes patch notes every Tuesday, released Season 21-1 Part 3 on 1 September 2026 and added the Crusader class on 21 July 2026. Whether it is worth your time depends on what you want: the slow grind of Webzen's own service, or a private server where progress is fast and the rules are stated up front. Is MU Online still active in 2026?
Yes. Webzen's global service received three Season 21-1 updates between July and September 2026 and keeps a weekly Tuesday patch cadence (latest notes 22 September 2026), and it opened a new server, Idavoll, on 11 August 2026. Private servers run alongside it with their own rates and rules.
Is it free to play?
MUOnline.ai is free to play: the account, the client and both realms cost nothing. A web shop sells GP and VIP, which are private-server mechanics exclusive to MUOnline.ai and not part of Webzen's game. What each of them changes is listed on the realm page, so you can judge for yourself before spending anything.
Which realm fits you?
- Permanent Realm: 5000x EXP, 60.000 max stats, stays online. Pick it for long-term characters and rankings.
- Speed Realm Autumn Edition: 99.999x EXP, 60.000 max stats, opened 4 September 2026 for a limited time; when it closes, each account can export two characters to the Permanent Realm.

Verdict
If you liked MU Online before, 2026 is a reasonable time to come back: the official game is still updated, and a private server lets you reach end-game content in days rather than months. If you have never played it, start on the Speed Realm Autumn Edition, where the fast rates show you the whole game quickly, and move your best characters to the Permanent Realm when it closes.
