Fix: “The Operation Was Cancelled by the User”

If you try to open main.exe or launcher.exe and you see “The operation was cancelled by the user”, do these quick fixes:

Fix A (fastest): Run as Administrator

  • Right-click main.exe
  • Click Run as administrator

Fix B: Move the MU folder to a simple path

Windows is stricter with files inside Downloads.

  • Create: C:\Games\MUOnline\
  • Move the full MU client folder there
  • Run main.exe again

Fix C (recommended): Unblock the file

Follow the steps below (works for both main.exe and launcher.exe): Unblock main.exe / launcher.exe.

Fix D: Check Windows Security “Protection history”

  • Open Windows Security
  • Go to Virus & threat protectionProtection history
  • If MU files were blocked/quarantined, restore only if you trust the download source

Unblock main.exe / launcher.exe (Recommended)

Windows can mark downloaded files as “blocked”. Unblocking often fixes repeated SmartScreen issues.

  1. Right-click main.exe (or launcher.exe) → Properties
  2. In the General tab, find “Security” at the bottom
  3. Check Unblock (if you see it)
  4. Click ApplyOK
  5. Run the file again
MU Online first start: run main.exe from the game folder
No “Unblock” checkbox? That’s fine. It means Windows is not marking the file as blocked.

Safety Checks (Quick)

Only do “Run anyway” if you trust the file. Quick checklist:

  • Download from the official server website (not random links)
  • Extract the client (do not run from .zip/.rar)
  • Scan main.exe with Microsoft Defender or your antivirus
Security note: Don’t permanently disable antivirus/Windows protection for a game. Use “Run anyway” + “Unblock” instead.

Still Blocked? Get Help (What to Send to Support)

If it still doesn’t work, send support/admin these details:

  • Your Windows version (Windows 10 or 11)
  • Which file you ran (main.exe or launcher.exe)
  • The exact message (“Windows protected your PC” or “operation was cancelled”)
  • A screenshot of the warning
